Ok, we'll try this again. ?Sorry for the votes that we lost with the site restore the other day. ?Everyone who voted, please vote again, and we'll see what we end up with as a consensus for a regional meet next year. ?

C'mon people we need your input again.

Cast them votes

If we do the outer banks of NC I can probably get us all a tour of the Grave Digger Monster Truck shop in Kill Devil Hills, NC.

If everyone is interested in going to the NC mountains, may I suggest that you just come on over the ridge of the mountains and have the event in Pigeon Forge, TN. This location is quickly becoming a favorite for many car/trcuk clubs for several reasons. One - the mountains are right there just like in NC or anywhere in the Smokies, so cruising in the AVs is a no brainer! Secondly wife and kids will find an unparalleled number of shopping outlets and entertainment (theme parks, water parks, go-karts, rides, etc.) stuff to do without traveling all over the place. In fact, you could drop the kids and wife off at the water park or theme park and the guys could really go for a cruise - if you know what I mean! >:D

What do you think of this suggestion? :B:

Great idea,wfbarto!One caveat-not on a football weekend!
Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg would be my first choice with Ashville 2nd(Biltmore House is simply AMAZING and Ashville is a really nice place). There is more family recreation in Pigeon Forge, but it's more commercialized than Ashville.Plenty of good mountainous terrain at either.

I'll be coming from central PA so the more north the better. The Pigeon Forge sounds good too. Yea if there is stuff for the wife and kids to do I'm all for it. We might just make a weeks vacation during the event.

(Was Virginia considered???)

My vote would be for Pigeon Forge also, coming from SE Pa. Would be able to make a real vacation out of it.

Well, when we first started talking about a regional meet, I think VA was mentioned, but most folks (including ones from PA/NJ/etc. seemed to prefer the NC mountains. I am from VA originally, and I know some great places there too, but I must admit I think the NC mountains offer more scenic choices.

Looks like we have a real wave of Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg support building...

After this poll has run it's course, I plan to do another with specific locations (i.e. Ashville, Blowing Rock, etc.) and I will be sure to include Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg as an option.

Cool Dave.

I was thinking about the driving distance when I was thinking about Virginia. That was before I knew anything about PF and Gatlinburg.

PF and Gatlinburg seem to have tons for everyone to do. I'm not familiar with the areas but alot of people have said they are both great places. Gatlinburg has a night lilfe. Plenty for kids to do. Shopping for spouses (Very important to get significant others to want to attend our Av Jamboree)

Looking at PigeonForge I think I'd have to vote for that also! For us here near DC, it's just under 500 mi - a nice days drive. Looks like there's lots for everyone there.

Thanks wfbarto for the suggestion! (y)

Fall 2002 would be GREAT but I wonder if some people would have a tough time getting vacation time. And getting the funds together.

June 2003 would be cool cause of the great water parks and kids would be out of school.

2003 give us time to get events scheduled, vendors and dealers can get stuff ready. Discounts on lodging could be available if we shoot for 2003.

This goes for where ever we finally decide to have the meet.

I agree, the original idea was proposed as a 2003 meet, and I think that's best considering all the things that have been mentioned (vacation, funds, event activities, lodging, etc.). I know it wouldn't be possible for me to do it this year, and guessing others would be in the same situation.

As for a date, it might end up that our location would play a role in when would be best. Sounds like another poll down the road ;D I am thinking either spring or fall, but I guess anything is possible. Would like a time when it won't be opressively hot. For all not familar with the NC (and I'm guessing TN) mountains, it can get REALLY hot & humid during the summer months. Early fall would be cool since the mountains would be beautiful that time of year, great for scenic cruises.

Gatlinburg/PF is my vote. We are there twice a year anyway (wife likes to shop), and it would be an easy sell.
Watch out for busy weekends (UT games and holidays), or you will be sitting in traffic. :7: However, this might be a good excuse to learn the backroads though.

Sounds like a good trip to me.

Has the idea of an East Coast meet for next summer died due to a lack of interest? Is anyone doing anything on this? Does anyone care? :cautious:

This is going to take the planning on the part of multiple people. ?I would day that anyone that is a Club Leader on the East coast needs to start doing their part to get an accurate count of how many people are willing to make the commitment to go.

From there we need someone in the area to start looking at cruise routes and sites to see.

For more planning tips go see Chief's guidelines...http://www.chevyavalanchefanclub.com/cruise/club_create_001.html. I know his are for Day cruises but just follow his guidelines on a larger scale.

I am thinking of trying to hack at running the South Florida Chapter.....gonna see if I can get some others to share in the task....but we will try and get some kind of plan going for our involvement.

OK I voted. If I don't have my Av by next spring or summer, the meet location won't matter b/c I will likely have committed suicide :3: :3: :3:

No guys, it hasn't died. I was waiting to get a good solid number of responses to the poll to see who is really interested. White is right, it's going to take a few people to get one like this setup and coordinated. Anyone dedicated enough to work with me on this? Could use someone over in the PF/Gatlinburg area or maybe Ashville to scout out a cruise route and stops/activies. Also to research local hotels for group rates, etc. So far, we've only got 20 votes. I'd like to see if we could double that. I know we must have a lot more east cost folks than have voted so far. You have to figure that a certain % are not going to be able to participate, but I figured if we had 40 or 50 people interested, and even if only 50% ended up coming for the event, we'd still have 20-25 Avalanches there. I think that would be a decent number for a regional (first)meet.

If we go to Pigeon Forge then we gotta have a cruise to
Clongmans Dome. Highest point in Tennesse at 6663 ft.
Then we can see who can climb up to the observation tower.
Kinda hard for us flatlanders :-[
