Maybe we can get a few groups hooked up as they make thier way to the Black Hills. Post what route you will be taking and see if anyone along your route wants to caravan with you.

I am not sure what our route from Arizona is going to be yet.. Nick? ;)

Todd

Looks like Arizona will be cruising up I-17 to 40 to 25. Hope to hook up with shanes02, The Vegas crew, and maybe SoCal and Orangeo5 and Mary.

Let's get us a real big line of Av's heading to Rapid City!

Nick >:D

I will be taking I-15 north to 26 east and going thru Yellowstone. I will be coming out at Livingston Montana on I-90. I am going to c try and coordinate with the members coming up on I-25 to meet in Gillette Wyoming. There is a rest area just after you leave Gillette on I-90 that would make a great meeting place.

If anyone needs help i know this area very well i have lived here for 17 years.

It would be nice to see several groups plan building the carvan as it gets closer to Rapid City.

Gotta work on the local Sioux Falls Av owners and get a few to join in on the fun!

Mine is simple, I-69 then I-94, I-90 for about 1000 miles

When more of us can get vacation dates confirmed we can try and get a caravan or two hooked up heading due west from somewhere in the Chicago area or past Chicago. I'm considering taking the ferry from Milwaukee across Lake Michigan on the return trip, if any Ontario, Michigan or anyone else heading East wants to take a 2.5 hour boat ride on the way home ? It's $65 vehicle plus $55 per adult Lake Express http://www.lake-express.com/

Avalanches on the Water would be a famous way to end the trip  :B:

Flint, when you are ready to start planning this trip. i can tell you where the best gas stops are along the way This is very important once you cross the Mississippi. The stops are few and far between. The farther west you go the longer the distance between stops. I have made the trip from Milwaukee to Pocatello atleast 8 times. So I know it very well. I have taken the 90 drive 7 times and 80 once.

So if you want the help I will be glad to give you my input.

As for taking the boat across lake Michigan, I wanted to do that so bad when i was living out there, but never had the chance.

Keep the anticipated routes coming everyone..

Thanks,
Todd

I'm going to take the low road and Shane's going to take the high road

You definitely are.  Here's a map that show Sac to SD and bottom is PHX to SD.  Doesn't look we share any road to SD  :E:

Looks my route will be I20 west out of Abilene to hwy 84 N till i get to Lubbock then
I 27 to Amarillo then
Hwy 287 out of Amarillo to Colorado then
Hwy 385 to SD then
Hwy 79 to Rapid City

This looks my best option hope to find some others going this way or similar route but looking at the last map i may have to cut over at Denver and hook up with Arizona group

So far here are some groups that could probably caravan at some point to SD:

- Central Cali, Nevada, and Idaho regions = Salt Lake City
- Arizona and Texas regions = Denver

Who else?

Looks like your direct path is parallel with the AZ group's.

Todd your map is great except the back highway you are taking. It will take you more time to drive that highway then to stay on Interstate 25 to I-90. There are some ways that are shorter on a map mileage wise but the highway is not very good for speed wise. That road if my memory serves me is a mountain road with a lot of switch backs. Trust me when I was driving back and forth to Wisconsin from Idaho i checked out every possible short cut. So far the only one that has helped my time was the highway the skirts Yellowstone.

Orange05 you would also be doing yourself a huge favor by cutting back into Denver. This will save you a huge amount of time. It may add a lot of miles but your speed and gas mileage will be worth it.

If Nor cal and everyone else is going to take I-80 across I can meet up with them in Little America. It is a huge truck stop between Evanston and Green River/Rock Springs. And if we coordinmate with the I-25 group we could all meet in Cheyenne at the Flying J, (cheapest gas in the country, usually).

Remember I use to plan trips for over 30,000 job sites to make sure my techs or i could get there efficiently.
