Need to figure out something for the dogs before we commit to one or both of us. I'll get back to you after we figure that out. I'm thinking of a couple diffent solutions:

1. Doggy day care and then Spork_Driver and I both get to come.
2. One of goes rafting and the other stays with the dogs.
3. I buy a kayak and Shania (my water loving husky) rides with me and we paddle in the general vicinity of the group.? >:D
4. Still tumbling ideas around in my head? >:D >:D

Like I said, I'll have to get back with you for a final answer.
you can rent a kayak or even a slight smaller rafts from most outfitters

So far we have the 3 of us at the Adventure level, the family is more of a float ride down the river.

don't be so sure- we did the family on the Nantahala a few years ago and it was a little scary. Tim ended up almost flying out and I had to grab him to keep him in then later on him and myself and everyone else except my oldest and another girl got dumped out. We were NOT with a professional guide however so that probably was the difference. The guy that was the "navigator" wore glasses and they kept fogging up and he couldn't see the rapids coming. Anyway it was a blast and I've done it since then so sign me up!

That's funny!

I know a guy that went once.  He said the the instructor told them "for you guys with glasses, we have straps to prevent you from loosing them.  For those of you that wear contacts, we have Scotch tape."

I don't care about seeing. I just want to stay in the dang raft. That water is freezing even in July!

 you got a newbie ?

I was suprised to see no class levels on their site but when I call them Monday I will ask. Around here they do tell you which class rapids they are. Water levels around the time of year we are going should be lower compared to the Spring which sometimes does take all the fun out of it. We had to carry our raft over the falls a few times because they was no water going over them . ?:E: :E: :E:

I'll add you to the list ? (y) Is it just you or more?

You may not want to sit across from me then if you want to stay in the raft  (y)

According to MapQuest, the Pigeon River outpost is about 55 miles (1 Hour) drive from where we will be staying in Pigeon Forge.

How does it compair to the Upper Guilly in West Virginia??

The Upper Guilly has class 4 and 5 rapids and is very fast!!
You have to go down the Ocoee which is a little further west. It is where they had the Olympic white water events when they were in Atlanta.

I heard that is pretty sweet.  I haven't been rafting in about 4 years now.
I will have to give it a go someday.

If I'm not mistaken, the water level is controlled by a upstream dam.  They try to optimize it for rafting.

You can try this company also- they have a good rep.

http://www.smokymountainrafting.com/

and this is who we always use when we go
http://www.noc.com. I didn't realize they did the Pigeon but they do! It is also a damn controlled river.

I don't know if Tim will be coming on this. I think his dunking in the Nanny may have put him off a little

Thanks? (y) I'll call them , if you have done the runs with the second one you mentioned and you liked them, then maybe we should go with that company since you have already had an experience with them . The price is about the same.

I have been happy with them but has anyone else used any other company's in that area? Just giving suggestions Bee. I guess a factor too would be who has the closest put in to where we will be.

If you can Bee, call a few of them and see who will give us the best bang for our buck!!

Don't think it's that far from PF either.  Maybe 1 1/2 to 2 hour drive.  If you want the more serious rafting, this would be my suggestion.  I'm sure mhough could tell you lots more as he lives in that area.
