Hey Everybody,
I'm in Southeast Michigan, and I'd like to know who's in my area. I'd like to attend an Av get together this summer, are there any in the works? Also, who knows of any auto parts stores in SE Mich that have a nice selection of Av stuff in stock?

Best Regards,
Joe

Joe,

Welcome to the family. We have quite a bit of activity in the North East Ohio area ( check out NEOCAFCNA ), for a calendar of events.

The question you raise is a good one but one that has been raised and has drawn much blood before. The post in Region I by the "Chief" pretty much sums up the battle over who is in which region. The first attempt to divide up the country into regions resulted in some states which already had a close working relationship, being located in seperate regions. This resulted in much controversy and bitter heated debate.

The regional concept is an attempt to manage the activities of a growing CAFCNA and is a good idea. The problem presented is where to draw the lines in the sand. The lesson learned was DON'T draw the lines between states where a close working relationship already existed and whose boundaries, economies and terrain create a natural alliance between them.

North East Ohio and West Virginia have very active chapters with a joint web site which I invite you to visit.
We have many GTG'S that might interest you and I invite you to participate.

As to why Ohio is not in the Great Lakes Region, the best answer that I can give is that it would also require West Virginia and PA to also be in that region.

Avalanche_XXX, I'm from SW MI and trying to start a local chapter for SW MI and N IN. Here is a link to that thread if you want to check it out SW MI & N IN. I dont know of an site for Michigan like the Ohio and West Virginia Chapters have. To make it easy here is a link to their site http://neocafcna.com/ it is a great chapter from what I know. I know that there are chapters in Detroit and Lansing, but I'm not sure how active they are. To find the current local chapters just click the "Meetings" button at the top of the page next to "Fun Stuff" and it will give you a list of the chapters and links to any plans they have for GTGs. And as always, your welcome at any chapter!

I've attended one GTG with other Michigan Avs, but hope to have a few more! I was sorta wondering about Michigan not being with Ohio...but you have to draw the line somewhere, and you can't please everyone!

Here's a shot of the Av's at the GTG.

We even managed to "play nice" with the Jeep group too!

I'm from the upper thumb area of Michigan but get to the northeast Detroit Suburbs quite frequently. Let me know if you are planning a cruise. I'd be interested, also. Maybe we could find some Dodges and Fords to run over! >:D

Hey you guys, It looks like you have enough interest to start your own Chapter. There is also a Chapter in Lansing, and one in Detroit, although I think Detroit might be dead. If it's not to far for you all, you might consider the Tippecanoe State Park Indiana camping trip May 9&10. If you don't want to camp, you could always make it a day cruise!

Lansing Chapter Coordiantor here....sorry for not replying earlier Avalanche_XXX, but I've been busy with a new baby (about a month old now) and haven't been able to post as much as I like.

BTW, even though we don't have an official Michigan Chapter yet....the Northeast Ohio Chapter was kind enough to loan us their T-Shirt logo with me (Ohio and WV Chapter Tee Shirts), so I've kind of taken the liberty to work up a Michigan T-Shirt, once I get the design done I'll post the best version and have everyone vote on what they like.

I got some info from Ohio for you all, Intimidatoruag is in Toledo. You should contact him if your interested in getting together. Let me know if I cn help with anything.

rvissers, Congrats on the new baby! Also, nice design for the shirt. Those will be cool to wear at the Nationals so everybody knows where your from.

I'll take the lucky #13 spot. I have talked to Ted (detroit coordinator) and the chapter is officially dead. This just means we have to hand the controls to someone else and get this started. Why don't we plan an informal GTG so that we can meet and make plans. Any ideas??? Let's see some posts for when and where.

Well, I guess that makes me #14. I live just north of Flint, and would like to hear of any cruises or GTG's. I have done car show circuits for over 12 years, and prefer cruises and such.

Nice job on the t shirts Rvissers.

14 of us around Detroit and counting, cool. Who might have the extra time to be a Detroit coordinator? Rvissers, can you share with us what the responsibilities of a coordinator are?

I'd like to know how many members are in the Lansing club. Any of Lansing club interested in heading down to the Detroit area for a gtg if we had it in Wixom/Novi area? Lansing to Novi is about an hour drive.

Currently we've got 4 memembers in the Lansing Chapter(including myself). Although I must admit it hasn't been to active, in other words hard to get everyone to show up to the regular meetings. So I've been toying with the idea of just focusing on cruises and events. We do have support from one of the Chevy Dealers here, in fact they put our broshure in the info packet with every new AV sold in town.

Right now the only 'responsibilties' doc that Chief came up with is in the 2nd step of the 'sign up to be a coordinator' page. http://www.chevyavalanchefanclub.com/cruise/club_create_002.html

Anyone up to an informal GTG this Saturday in Novi. We could meet at Local Color Micro Brewery (on Grand River about 1 mile east of Novi Road on the south side of the road) for lunch. They have a large parking lot so that we could all park together and the food is good. The weather is supposed to be better. Just an idea. The last time we got together was for the Detroit Auto Show, we ended up with 6 AV's. Please reply if it sounds like fun and we can firm it up.
